Modern Monarch: Inspiration from the Royal Courts
The British Royal family sure gets a lot of attention; from controversy in the tabloids to all eyes on the new baby. The House of Windsor might get much of the spotlight due to the fact that many countries including Australia and Canada remain part of the Commonwealth of Nations, formerly, the British Commonwealth.
However, there are 25 other monarchies around the world, each with varying levels of power and rules about how succession to the thrown works. Check out the list here. And channel your inner royal with this spring/summer inspiration.
You can go one of two ways with royal style: either stick with nudes and neutrals or go for bold colors (they call it Royal Blue for a reason). Above I've compiled the neutral approach, as these tones are easy to mix and keep dressing simple.
High Waisted Pants in Blush (alice + olivia)
Sweater Tank (Krista K Boutique)
Flats in Bone (Zara)
Chicago Flats (Jo Mercer)
Versatile White Blouse (ShopBop)
High Waisted Linen Ankle Pants (Express)
The red leather Cardinal bag, part of the In Flight Collection, is the bold pop of color to complete your neutral look. The classic "beak clasp" reminds the wearer to take flight, i.e., follow their passions.
You'll notice that royal makeup is often understated or seemingly nonexistent. Above is Queen ‘Masenate Mohato Seeiso, Queen of Lesotho. Here is a short tutorial.
